Cape Bear Light

The "Cape Bear Light" painting by Master Artist J. Charles captures the stateliness of the Cape Bear Lighthouse on Prince Edward Island. Built in 1881 by John Whalen the square tapered lighthouse was the first to hear the Titanic’s distress signal as it sank off the coast of Newfoundland.

The 12 meter high lighthouse proved useful during the Second World War for spotting German U-boats that neared the coast and retreated into the deep trench which runs between the Magdalen Islands and Prince Edward Island.
